Professor John S Lekias was a well respected senior neurosurgeon in Western Australia, holding a number of senior appointments at Royal Perth Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital and having active involvement with neurological services at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Fremantle Hospital. He was the President of the WA Branch of the AMA (1976-77). Following his death in 1983 funds were raised to establish the John S Lekias Memorial Lectureship.
